Commissions and Premieres
On practically every concert, material is created, arranged or transcribed for our group of talented musicians, due to a lack of existing material that will entertain the audience, yet is composed at a level challenging enough for our players.
A behind-the-scenes process of securing source material, obtaining permission from the copyright holder and writing the material must occur before the notes are placed in front of the musicians, and then, any “copied-down-the-wrong-note” mistakes must be ironed-out before the work is performed in front of an audience. The process from idea to performance usually takes a year. The Metropolitan Winds is proud to have the talents of Randol Bass, and several players who can create this material for our players and for you, the appreciative audience. In addition to the material written exclusively for our group, The Metropolitan Winds is privileged to have been a part of the following commissions and premieres of fine wind band literature that is commercially available: Riffs, by Jeff Tyzik (Southwestern Premiere) on April 11, 2010 From Blueness to Brightness, by Dave Joyner (World Premiere) on April 5, 2009 Trumpet Concerto #4, by Floyd Werle (World Premiere) on April 5, 2009 The Planets by Gustav Holst, arranged by Kevin Kasper (World Premiere) on March 12, 2006 High Adventure, by Randol A. Bass (Southwestern Premiere) on July 12, 2003 Casey at the Bat, by Randol A. Bass (version for wind band published by Alfred Music) on October 31, 2001 Silverado, by Bruce Broughton, arranged by Randol A. Bass on June 2000 ‘Twas the Night before Christmas, by Randol A. Bass (version for wind band published by Alfred Music) on December 1996 |
