The Metropolitan Winds presents
A Night at the Concert Hall - Orchestral Spectaculars
For its 2002-2003 season opening concert at the Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas, the Metropolitan Winds, directed by Randol Bass, will perform a selection of wind transcriptions of orchestral works. Featured on the program will be "Don Juan" by Richard Strauss, Borodin's "Polvetsian Dances", "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" of Debussy, and von Dohnanyi's "Variations on a Nursery Theme", with Maestro Bass at the keyboard. The concert will conclude with a rare non-Independence Day performance of Tchaikowsky's "1812 Overture". "A night at the Concert Hall" will take place Sunday, November 17, at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora Street, in the Dallas Arts District. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster: www.ticketmaster.com This program inaugurates the ninth season of the Metropolitan Winds. Born as the Coppell Symphonic Band in 1993, the group has expanded its reach to the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, becoming one of the region's most highly esteemed volunteer performing groups. Under the leadership of Randol Bass, the group has played host to guest artists such as jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and Hollywood film score composer Bruce Broughton, performing in both the Meyerson Symphony Center and Fort Worth's Bass Performance Hall. Bolstered by Mr. Bass' sparkling transcriptions and original compositions, the Metropolitan Winds has provided Metroplex music lovers with extremely well received programs of Broadway, Film Score, and now Orchestral selections.
