The Metropolitan Winds joins forces with Adam Rapa, one of the most exciting young Jazz/Fusion trumpet players in the world today, for an eclectic program of big band and (REALLY) Big Band Jazz.
Fresh from his televised solo performance of the Star-Spangled Banner at the last Dallas Cowboys game in Texas Stadium, Adam joins the Winds in a performance of Floyd Werle’s Trumpet Concerto #4, written for Doc Severinsen and never before performed.
The Winds has also commissioned an original work for wind band and jazz ensemble, "Blueness to Brightness", composed for the occasion by noted jazz composer and arranger, Dr. David Joyner. This new work features solo appearances by noteworthy North Texas artists, including Chris McGuire on Sax, Stockton Helbing on drums, Chris McQueen on guitar, and the composer himself at the keyboard.
We’ve also gone deep into the archives in presenting original big band numbers by noted UNT alum Lyle Mays, noted for his long association with the Pat Metheny Group.
Come join the Metropolitan Winds playing exciting new jazz numbers, wind band jazz arrangements, jazz vocals, incredibly exciting solo performances and more, in a (Really) Big Band Jam! |
